An earthquake of magnitude 7.2 was recorded off the coast of the Philippines

An earthquake occurred off the coast of the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines, the magnitude of the tremors was 7.2, the US Geological Survey reports.

The epicenter of the seismic event was located 145 kilometers from the city of Davao, the main port of the island, the focus lay at a depth of 50 kilometers.

A tsunami threat was reported, the occurrence of dangerous waves was predicted within a radius of 300 kilometers from the epicenter of the earthquake.

Subsequently, the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Philippines clarified that there is no threat of a tsunami after the earthquake.

Earlier, tremors of magnitude 5.0 were recorded in the Pacific Ocean near the Kuril Islands.
