Yandex.Analytics.Zen and the staff of the Vinogradov Institute of the Russian Language have published a list of dialect words that are used in speech by residents of Russian regions.

To collect unusual vocabulary, philologists used user comments on the Yandex. Zen website. The researchers chose the words that they found most interesting.

So, in the metropolitan region, cafes, restaurants and other public catering establishments can be designated in one word – “eatery”. A multi-storey building in Moscow is called a “man-maker”, and a shopping pavilion is called a “corner”.

In addition to the well-known “curb” – an analogue of the Moscow “curb”, in the vocabulary of residents of the Northern capital found the word “icicles” – so they say about icicles on the roofs. The college there is called “putyaga”, a cigarette butt – “habarik”.

In the Belgorod region, instead of “outwit”, they say “wave”. In the Sverdlovsk region, a large apartment is called “khabazina”. The need to do something very quickly is denoted by the residents of Kuban with the adverb “urgent-fainting”, and instead of “losing” sometimes they say “to miss”. The word “flywheel” is used in the Kaluga region to refer to trash or garbage.

Earlier it was reported that Russian scientists intend to publish a dictionary that will help you understand the language of ticktockers. The book is intended to become a “communication bridge” between the young audience of social networks and the older generation.
