In Moscow, the record for low pressure, held for 74 years, was broken

The record of low atmospheric pressure in Moscow, which has been held since 1948, was broken today, a leading employee of the Phobos weather center, Yevgeny Tishkovets, told RIA Novosti.

According to the meteorologist, by 14 o’clock in the afternoon, the drop in atmospheric pressure reached the bottom of 717.3 mm of mercury.

Earlier at noon, the value of 719.7 mm of mercury was recorded at the capital’s VDNH weather station. Thus, the record of 1948 was broken, when the barometer readings fell to 720.6 mm of mercury.

In the coming days, Muscovites are waiting for a baric saw, Tishkovets said. He specified that the low pressure level will last until 20 pm, after which the barometer columns will grow by more than 10 units in the next day, forming a baric saw.

The day before it was reported that up to 25% of the monthly precipitation rate may fall in Moscow, and atmospheric pressure will drop below the baric limit to 716 mm of mercury.
