In the Russian Federation, it was proposed to introduce computer science lessons from the first grade

Parents from different regions of the country told what is missing in computer science lessons – according to the majority, children need more practice, as well as learning the basics of programming. The results of a survey commissioned by the GeekBrains educational platform were reported on Monday by the Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

The study involved more than 3.5 thousand people whose children are in school.

Nine out of ten parents are convinced that computer science teaching materials are becoming obsolete faster than IT technologies are developing.

Over 70% of respondents believe that students do not have enough practical classes, and teachers do not understand the trends in the development of the IT sphere well enough. Two-thirds of respondents reported that schools lack modern computers. Every second wants his children to learn programming languages.

Almost half of the respondents were in favor of studying computer science from the first grade; 82% are convinced that more attention should be paid to computer science at school.

As Alexander Volchek, CEO of GeekBrains, told the publication, commenting on the survey results, studying computer science from early childhood develops logic, attention, creativity, and the ability to analyze facts.

Meanwhile, in November, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education approved the list of entrance exams to universities. Computer science and information and communication technologies (ICT), as well as physics, chemistry, and a foreign language are included in the list of tests that, if necessary, will be set by the educational organization itself.
