Oh, a wheelbarrow! In Russia, a new buggy based on the Niva was tested at the exercises

Ulyanovsk paratroopers tested light buggies “Sarmat-2”, which were recently adopted by the Airborne Forces. Buggies were used at the Nizhny Novgorod training ground Mulino during one of the episodes of the strategic exercises “West-2021”. During the drawing of the battle, the transfer of a buggy in the cargo compartment of Mi-8 helicopters was shown, as well as shooting from the vehicle’s onboard weapons. The military does not report how effectively the machines showed themselves in a training battle.

Local conflicts require the creation of not only new classes of equipment, but also the revival of old models that seem to have lost their relevance. Recently, there has been a tendency to increase the security of cars, which inevitably leads to an increase in mass. With the development of modern means of destruction, this does not make the car invulnerable, but it reduces cross-country ability and mobility. Therefore, the armies of the world decided to abandon compromises, returning to the old concept of light transport, the main advantage of which is cross-country ability and mobility. Simply put, to & laquo;cars», which were especially popular during the civil war. Then they were a horse-drawn cart with a machine gun. Now, of course, engines are used as traction, not horses.

To date, our country has developed several types of light transport for special forces and other structures. Popular all-terrain vehicles of the “Sarmatian” type are modern “wheelbarrows”that can be used in all situations when it is necessary to quickly transfer people and cargo to a given area over any terrain. In addition, they can be used in raids on the enemy’s rear. For example, in the Syrian events, some lightweight armored vehicles show themselves well.

One of the latest representatives of such equipment are two samples of the Sarmat family, designed for special forces assault detachments.

It is noteworthy that the off-road buggy “Sarmat”, made on the units of the well-known civil “Niva”, received a similar name to the Russian strategic missile system of the fifth generation mine-based with a heavy multi-stage liquid intercontinental ballistic missile. The official name of the buggy, which was developed by the Moscow Design Bureau “Technique”, is a light special vehicle (LSTS). The buggy has no doors and a roof, instead of it, arches with jumpers are used on the car. They are used to install infantry weapons. There is also a protected version – “Sarmat-3”.

The car received an all-wheel drive chassis with a 4×4 wheel formula with inter-wheel and inter-axle locks. The load capacity of the machine weighing 2100 kilograms is 600 kilograms. The buggy is driven by a 1.7-liter gasoline engine “VAZ-21” thinsp;214 “with a capacity of 80 hp. The car is equipped with a five-speed “mechanics”. The maximum speed of the special car is 130 km/h – it can definitely compete with Zhiguli.

The manufacturer claims that the Sarmat-2 is designed for operation at air temperatures from minus 20 to plus 50 ° C – it will work in temperate Arctic latitudes and in the desert.& nbsp;At the same time, the machine is simple and does not need particularly complex components — this will be at hand if repair work is necessary.

Light and undemanding transport can be used in the mountains at an altitude of up to 3100 meters, overcome passes up to 4.5 km high, transport loads up to 600 kg. The Sarmat-2 can be transported by air by army aviation helicopters, including Mi-8 helicopters, and it is also possible to transfer it on an external suspension.

However, the cost of the car is not disclosed – it was purchased under a secret state contract.

Last year, the US Army held a competition for the supply of similar machines. The tender for the supply of the buggy Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) was won by GM Defense, and the military ordered the first batch of 649 cars. Conceptually, ISV is similar to the Russian “Sarmatians” – maximum simplicity, lightness and mobility. Created on the chassis of a civilian car, the ISV is 70% unified with the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 pickup truck.

The ISV is equipped with a 2.8-liter 4-cylinder Duramax LWN diesel engine, which produces 186 horsepower. This allowed the American engineers to make the buggy quite large. The machine weighing 2,245 kilograms can accommodate nine paratroopers, and its load capacity reaches 1,500 kilograms.

The ISV is equipped with an electronic control system that will automatically change the responsiveness of the electric power steering and the stiffness of the shock absorbers, depending on road conditions.

The cost of an American car starts from 177 thousand dollars.
