One of the OneWeb satellite launches from Baikonur has been postponed until 2022

A source in the rocket and space industry said that one of the four launches of the British communication satellites OneWeb from the Baikonur cosmodrome, planned for 2021, has been postponed until next year, RIA Novosti reports.

“Now the schedule is as follows: August 2, September 9, and the end of December. One launch was postponed to 2022, so as not to pay Kazakhstan additional money for using the fall area of the first stage of the Soyuz-2 launch vehicle, he said.

It is noted that the deployment of the OneWeb group will not suffer from this, since the missing launch is planned to be carried out from the Vostochny cosmodrome on October 7.

Recall that the previous time the launch vehicle “Soyuz-2” with 36 British spacecraft launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome on the evening of May 28. 

OneWeb plans to increase the number of communications satellites in orbit to 648. The first six vehicles were launched into orbit in 2013. The next launch is scheduled for July 1.
