Railgun for the Navy. In the United States, they refused to develop an electromagnetic gun

In the United States, funding for the development of an electromagnetic gun, the so-called railgun, which has long been considered a potentially revolutionary weapon system, has stopped. Its development was carried out for 16 years, but for the first time in the draft budget of the Navy for the 2022 fiscal year, two articles related to the money for the railgun disappeared.

What is a railgun?

With the help of electromagnetic installations, the Americans were going to accelerate the projectiles to hypersonic speeds, they planned to use them in the air defense system of ships. The railgun technology was based on the use of an electromagnetic force, known as the Lorentz force, to rapidly accelerate and launch the projectile.

Since 2005, the U.S. Navy has tested at least two different railgun designs, one from BAE Systems and one from General Atomics. More than $ 200 million was invested in these projects.

Both railguns functioned in roughly the same way, firing projectiles using powerful electromagnetic fields. In 2017, during ground tests, the BAE Systems railgun was able to throw projectiles that accelerate to a speed of more than six Mach numbers. The kinetic energy of the projectile in contact with the target is incredibly large, it was compared to the energy of a golf-class car rushing at a speed of 160 km/h. It was planned that the ammunition would be able to hit targets in the air and at sea at a range of about 260 kilometers.

Why did you cancel the project?

However, as time went on, the status of this program and any results it might have achieved became increasingly hazy. If in 2014, representatives of the US Navy claimed that in the near future they would get an electromagnetic railgun, gradually they began to forget about this project. Many experts initially criticized the idea of railcars. They drew attention to the fact that at the current level of technology development, it is impossible to create an electromagnetic accelerator of the necessary energy.power in dimensions acceptable for a warship, even an aircraft carrier. To generate the necessary energy, in addition to the electromagnetic cannon, it takes an entire power plant to supply it with energy. It is no coincidence that the tests of the railgun were constantly postponed and postponed. In recent years, more and more information has also emerged indicating that the US Navy is close to canceling the railgun program. Nevertheless, funding continued at a relatively stable level until this year.

But new local successes in testing the railgun did appear. In September 2020, the Weapons Of World channel published a video on Youtube of a US Armed Forces exercise in which a 155-millimeter Advanced Gun System (railgun prototype) mounted on an M110 Howitzer self-propelled howitzer intercepted a BQM-167 Skeeter air target that mimicked a Russian cruise missile. In the same year, tests showed thatthere is a possibility of multiple firing from a prototype rail gun from BAE Systems. It was reported that in the future, these systems will be able to hit targets of various types-from ships and coastal objects to enemy aircraft and guided missiles – at a distance of up to 100 miles. Then, inspired by the results achieved, the US Navy even hastily stated that they expect to receive serial samples of these weapons by 2025.

It is obvious that the US Navy is not going to completely abandon the technology of the electromagnetic gun, using the obtained technologies, work is underway on the project of the Hyper-Velocity Projectile (HVP). But the development of the railgun itself is planned to be postponed for some time. The US Navy says it will keep the equipment, technological developments and documentation related to the long years of work with railcars, in case it wants to revise this concept in the future. Perhaps the developers expect new technologies that will allow them to advance in the creation of a railgun.

The head of the Center for Military Forecasting Anatoly Tsyganok believes that the creation of a railgun is a prospect of the distant future, no country in the world has yet advanced in this.

“Developers quite often get a negative experience when creating new types of weapons, this is a common practice when huge amounts of money are wasted. Apparently, at present, the technology has not reached the level where it is possible to create such a type of weapon as a railgun. But in any case, the United States has significantly advanced in technology in the design and testing of promising weapons, ” the expert concluded.

How to get to the “Land of Heroes”? Here they do not entertain, but prepare for life

Plot National projects

In Russia, for the third year, the national project “Culture” is implementing a project of military-historical camps called “Country of Heroes”.

The Russian Military Historical Society has created a unique program for them, which is designed to help generations strengthen the historical and cultural connection between generations, instill in children and adolescents an interest in studying the history of their country, increase physical and military training. For children who want to get into such a camp, a competitive selection is organized. Those who pass it will get a ticket to the “Land of Heroes”, and it will be completely free.

From & laquo; Defenders & raquo; to & laquo;Guardians & raquo;

In 2021, the Country of Heroes program will be held in camps in the Ivanovo, Penza, Volgograd, Pskov regions and in the Ufa District.

One of the first shifts opened on June 7 in the village of Lekarevka in the Republic of Bashkortostan in the children’s health and education center “Berezovka”. Here, not only teachers work with children, but also methodologists, RVIO consultants and specially trained counselors. The students can choose the direction they like best, for example, “Defenders”, “Guardians of History”, “Victory Media”, “Victory Volunteers”.

“Defenders” will be taught first aid, survival in extreme conditions, orienteering, as well as the basics of military-applied, combat and military-tactical training.

“Victory Volunteers” will get acquainted with modern types of organizing events dedicated to the memorable dates of the Great Patriotic War. Teachers and counselors will prepare several special events together with the children.

The “Guardians of History” have a slightly different direction-they will be taught the skills of applied military archaeology, tourist, topographical training, as well as tell and show how a person can survive alone in spartan conditions in nature.

Those guys who choose the directions of “Media Victory” will begin to search for and create information events dedicated to the heroic past of our people. They will be taught to conduct reports, blogs, and even create patriotic films about veterans, historical and cultural heritage monuments.

Choose the best

The project of military-patriotic camps “Country of Heroes” has its own website “country of Heroes”.the Russian Federation, where parents together with their children can learn more about the directions in a particular camp and together choose the best option for the child. There’s still time for that. For example, in the Ivanovo region in the children’s sanatorium camp “Builder” from 13June opens the second shift for this season. And in the Penza region in the children’s sanatorium “Niva” the second shift is waiting for its young participants from July 3. In the Volgograd and Pskov regions, the first shifts of children’s health camps participating in the project “Country of Heroes” will open from July 17 in the camp “Azure” and from July 21 in the camp “Star”.

Everyone who wants to go to the camp “Countries of Heroes” must provide a portfolio of any documents confirming the interests and merits of the candidate for the camp, for example, letters of thanks and recommendations, certificates and diplomas of the winner of all-Russian, regional and municipal sports competitions, Olympiads, military-tactical games, etc. Also, the child is invited to write a motivational letter of 250 to 500 characters, in which he will tell why he chose this or that direction in the camp.

Fortress capture, TRP and quests

“The camps of the Country of Heroes” are organized by the Russian Military-Patriotic Society, “the AIF” saidAnastasia KiselevaAt the end of the shift, each child will receive an honorary badge and a certificate that they have passed the additional general development program of the military history camp.

The Country of Heroes is waiting for all children from 12 to 17 years old who are interested in military history, young journalists and bloggers, members of military historical reconstruction clubs and search teams, members of volunteer youth movements and patriotic clubs.

Slime in the Sea of Marmara

Slime has covered the shores of the Sea of Marmara in Turkey.

The coast of the Marmara Sea near Istanbul was covered with a thick layer of brown slime from phytoplankton. Slime is present not only on the surface of the sea, in some places the thickness of the layer reaches from 25 to 30 meters. This substance, also known as “sea snot”, appears when phytoplankton (microscopic algae) begins to grow rapidly.Experts believe that this process can occur due to climate change and water pollution. This mucus does not pass oxygen, which leads to the death of marine organisms. First of all, this applies to oysters, mussels, sea snails, starfish. Turkish fishermen can not go to sea, due to the fact that the slime clogs the engines of their boats and vessels, as well as the nets.

In this regard, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a special statement and announced an environmental disaster. The President of the country promised to do everything possible to solve this problem. At the moment, a group of 300 specialists has been sent to the area of the environmental disaster to study the situation.

What kind of sea slime was found in the Sea of Marmara?

The Sea of Marmara south of Istanbul is covered with thick slime. The spread of a dense mass of gray-green color in this water area was the largest in history. It was found not only on the surface of the water, but also at a depth of up to 30 meters.

What is sea slime?

Sea slime is a natural phenomenon that occurs when phytoplankton overgrowth due to high temperatures and water pollution. It consists of protein, carbohydrates, and microscopic algae. In Turkey, it was first discovered in 2007 in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Greece, but then the dangerous substance was not so much and it did not pose a serious problem.

Where did the slime come from in the Sea of Marmara?

Thick mucus began to appear in December last year and by the beginning of June reached a gigantic size. Turkish scientists conducted research and called on the country’s authorities to take emergency measures. According to director of the Middle East Technical University of Turkey (ODTU) Barysh Salihoglu, a significant contribution to its formation is made by untreated runoff that flows into the sea from industrial enterprises, as well as runoff from rivers.

Scientists also believe that the slime began to appear due to climate change. According to them, high temperatures promote the reproduction of microorganisms that are contained in “sea snot”. According to Muharrem Balci, a professor of biology at Istanbul University, the slime is the result of a kind of nutrient overload of algae, which is fed by warm weather and water pollution, which has deteriorated dramatically over the past 40 years. “This slime now covers the surface of the sea like a tarp for a tent,” Balchi said.

What is the danger of the substance?

According to experts, the slime gradually sinks to the sea floor, where it covers the corals, destroying them. It also prevents the killing of marine life, as it blocks the flow of oxygen into the water. According to the Turkish news site Cumhuriyet, in the Sea of Marmara, slime has already filled the waters up to 30 meters deep.

In addition, due to the thick substance on the sea surface, ships have to swim through a thick layer of slime, some fishing boats can not go to sea, because the slime clogs their engines and nets.

What measures are the Turkish authorities taking?

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan he promised to clean the coast of Istanbul from slime. The Head of State instructed Environment Minister Murat Kurum to address this problem.

According to Erdogan, the thick substance threatens, among other things, the ecology of the Black Sea. The leader of the republic announced the adoption of immediate measures. Now a team of 300 experts is working on the site of its accumulation, who are trying to assess the scale of pollution and find the causes of its occurrence.

According to Professor Bayram Ozturk of the Turkish Center for Marine Research, the slime problem will not go away if the authorities do not invest more in a program to clean up sewage drains from Istanbul.

What temperature is expected in the south of Russia?

In the Rostov region and the Krasnodar Territory, the temperature is predicted to be below normal by 3 & ndash;4 degrees. This situation will continue until the middle of next week. Because of this, the beginning of the swimming season will be slightly delayed, Wilfand said. According to him, it will be possible to swim in the Black Sea after the water warms up to 22 degrees. So far, its temperature is 17 degrees in Sochi and Tuapse and 19 degrees in Anapa, Gelendzhik and Novorossiysk.

Will it be warm in Moscow this week?

According to Vilfand, the temperature in the capital will be four to seven degrees above normal. From Monday, the region will have night temperatures in the range of 10-13 degrees Celsius, during the day the air will warm up to +25 degrees.

Throughout the second week of June, the weather in Moscow will be unstable, with frequent heavy rains and thunderstorms. Up to 50 mm of precipitation, or 70% of the monthly norm, can fall in a week. At the same time, it will become warmer than it was.

The weather forecaster also noted that by the next weekend, the water temperature will increase to the optimal for swimming (20 & ndash;22 degrees).

Bout’s mother appealed to Putin and Biden to return her son to Russia

Plot The trial of Viktor Bout in the United States

The mother of Russian businessman Viktor Bout, Raisa Bout, appealed to Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden ahead of their meeting in Geneva, asking them to agree on the return of her son to Russia. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the text of the appeal of the Russian woman.

“I appeal to you with a plea for the return of my son to his homeland. I am almost 85 years old, and if he has to be in a US prison for another half of the term, I will most likely not wait for him to go to America to visit my son, I can no longer for health reasons, “wrote Raisa Booth.” I ask you, as a mother who has been waiting for her son for many years: arrange something between you so that my son can return to me while I am alive.”

Raisa Booth also noted that her childhood was during the Great Patriotic War, at the end of which she was already old enough to understand that America and the USSR fought together against the fascists. “And then, no matter how bad the relationship was between us, we never went to war with each other. I believe that Russia and America will always be able to agree and understand each other. Our countries have managed to do this more than once, ” the appeal also says.

“My son is not a terrorist, he is a businessman,” the judge said during the trial in New York. I respect the judge’s opinion, – also wrote Booth. – Victor has already lost 13 years of his life. And his life, and mine, and the life of his wife and daughter, my granddaughter, who grew up without a father. We are all very much waiting for Victor and hope for your participation and sincere generosity.

She also asked the leaders of the two countries to think about other families of Russians and Americans whose loved ones are imprisoned in other countries, and to give them a chance to be close, and not at such a great distance from each other.

Bout was arrested in Thailand at the request of the United States in 2008 and taken to this country. In 2012, a jury in New York found him guilty of conspiracy to murder American citizens and material support for terrorism. He was given the minimum sentence for the articles that he was charged with, 25 years in prison. To date, he has served more than half of that sentence. He pleads not guilty.

Earlier, the wife of Russian Viktor Bout, who is serving a sentence in an American prison, said that her husband began to have inflammation of his teeth.

The Cabinet of Ministers considers the issue of providing schoolchildren with milk

The Cabinet of Ministers of Russia is considering the issue of federal support for the School Milk program, which provides for the daily provision of milk to schoolchildren as an additional food, RIA Novosti reports.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko at the SPIEF said that the consumption of milk in primary school gives children the opportunity to add to their growth, which significantly affects the capabilities of the young body. She noted that in China, the program works at the state level, and this allows children to grow and develop normally. In Russia, the School Milk program has been adopted in just over 10 regions.

Abramchenko added that the possibility of expanding the program is currently being worked out, taking into account the sufficiently large federal funding. So, if we take into account only grades 1-4 of schools, we will need about 20 billion rubles. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that this is an important project that needs to be addressed, as children need animal protein.

Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor employees checked the organization of food in 24.2 thousand schools (54% of the total number), and 4.3 thousand food suppliers.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers Mikhail Mishustin also proposed to involve parents in the control of school meals. In his opinion, they understand best what their children need and what will benefit them.

The FSB has exposed an agent of the Ukrainian special services in Russia

In Russia, an agent of the special services of Ukraine, who for a long time provided “advisory assistance” to the SBU with the aim of “damaging the security of the Russian Federation”, has been exposed, the press service of the FSB reports.

It is specified that the name of the suspect is Alexey Semenyaka.

Its activities were coordinated by Ukrainian counterintelligence officers Timur Gasymov and Igor Chernyak.

FSB operatives seized the Ukrainian’s electronic devices with messages from SBU employees offering to help them solve their work issues in order to harm the security interests of Russia. During the interview, Semenyaka confirmed that he maintained a long-term relationship with representatives of the SBU and provided them with diverse consulting assistance.

During the investigation, operatives recorded an attempt by third parties from Kiev to remotely destroy data from Semenyaka’s mobile device. The FSB regarded this as a way to protect Semenyaka by his curators from the SBU. Data deletion was prevented.

Also, the FSB prevented the damage to the external security of the Russian Federation by the actions of Semenyaka. His stay in the country was declared undesirable, and he was banned from entering Russia for 25 years. On June 3, Semenyaka left the territory of the Russian Federation.
