Time of the second. How Hypersound Threatens US Military Superiority

The State Research Institute of Aviation Systems analyzed the position of the United States in missile technologies. Experts have come to the conclusion that today, for the first time, Americans are lagging behind since the end of the Cold War. This is due to hypersonic missiles, which, along with the Americans, are made by Russia and China. There is no effective weapon against such missiles yet, and huge funds are needed to create it.

The US military power is now based on its ability to project overwhelming force over long distances, i.e. deliver troops, ships, planes and missiles to any area of the world in a short period of time. This is partly possible due to the presence of military bases scattered around the world. In particular, thanks to the allies in the NATO bloc.

Russia and China do not have such an “expeditionary” force projection. Hypersonic weapons, which are being developed in these countries, can help achieve parity. It presents their armed forces with a powerful tool for strengthening access-blocking or invasion-blocking zones that deter the deployment of US forces and even threaten them with a decapitating first strike.

Hypersonic weapons systems are designed to defeat existing missile defenses due to the speed exceeding the speed of sound up to 27 times, and high maneuverability (the ability to change the trajectory in flight). Effective countermeasures against these weapons currently do not exist.

Therefore, Russia, China and a number of other countries (India, Iran, North Korea) are actively implementing hypersonic technologies.

Russia is developing its own hypersonic arsenal. In 2019, the deployment of the country’s first hypersonic intercontinental ballistic missile “Avangard” was announced. During the tests in 2018, the rocket successfully hit the target at a distance of about 6,000 km, moving along a zigzag trajectory with a speed of 27 Mach.

In 2019, the Chinese army demonstrated the DF-ZF medium-range hypersonic gliding aircraft mounted on the DF-17 standard medium-range ballistic missile. The system has a range of 2 & nbsp; 500 & nbsp; km, a maximum speed of 10 Mach and extreme maneuverability in flight, designed specifically for the breakthrough of the US missile defense, including the ship-based Aegis air defense systems, high-altitude THAAD air defense systems, Patriot air defense systems. Although the system is officially armed with a conventional warhead, experts believe that it can be equipped with a nuclear warhead.

According to experts, the DF-ZF UAV demonstrated a high degree of accuracy during tests, and the warheads landed “within a few meters” of the target. More importantly, the prototype DF-ZF is able to escape from under attack in flight, leaving the enemy little time to react.

At the International Conference on Aerospace Aircraft, Hypersonic Systems and Technologies in 2017, Chinese scientists presented more than 250 articles on the topic of hypersonic weapons, almost ten times more than American ones. It is known that in the 2008-2018’s, China conducted about 20 times more tests of hypersonic weapons than the United States.

As you can see, the US opponents correspond to their technological level in this area, and in some cases even surpass them. Therefore, the Pentagon is forced to give priority to both research and development of the hypersonic weapons themselves, and protection against them.

Therefore, the Pentagon has requested $ 2.865 billion from the Congress.& nbsp;on & nbsp; financing of hypersonic weapons projects in & nbsp; 2021 & nbsp;year, which is 13% more compared to the amount in 2020 fin.& nbsp;G. ($2.508 billion). Traditional US defense systems, for example, ground-based missile defense systems on the marching sectionthe flight of the “Aegis” BMD and “THAAD” are not adapted to protect against the “hypersonic threat”. Traditional missile defense is a complex task in itself, requiring target tracking, high-speed data transmission and interception. The speed and maneuverability of hypersonic missiles greatly complicate it.

Scientists have created a special gel for watering the garden

Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) as part of an international team have created a gel from food waste, which will allow watering the garden less often, reports 360.

The TPU researchers explained that with the traditional method of cultivating plants, some of the water and most of the chemicals are mixed with ground water and do not reach the roots. Scientists have proposed using polymer hydrogels as an additive to the soil.

The biodegradable hydrogel is able to store a lot of water, and then slowly release it as the soil dries. Russians, using the gel, will be able to water the garden about once a week, said researcher Antonio Di Martino.

It is noted that now TPU scientists are preparing the technology to enter the market. The average service life of hydrogels is several weeks. It can be used in large farms and horticulture.

Earlier, ” AIF ” told me that there is a table calendar of fertilizing for the garden and vegetable garden, and each crop can be additionally nourished based on its needs for the necessary substances.

Why do we need a census of hedgehogs?

Weekly magazine “Arguments and Facts” No. 25. A difficult task. What has school education come to? 23/06/2021

News: “For the first time in Russia, Ural scientists will conduct a census of hedgehogs”. Are these some kind of valuable animals? Our scientists have nothing else to do?

“In my opinion, this representative of the fauna has not been studied enough. For example, few people know that 5 different species of hedgehogs live in Russia. Our task is not to count all hedgehogs completely, which, of course, is impossible, but to get data on the dynamics of growth or decrease in their number in Russia, ” said curator of the project “Hedgehogs of Russia”, Candidate of Biological Sciences, member of the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Oleg Tolkachev. If it turns out that the number of hedgehogs is decreasing, then you need to include them in the Red Book. After all, they were deleted from it several years ago. Meanwhile, these are very useful animals: they eat insects, help gardeners to fight pests.

The first stage of the program project will last until autumn, when the animals will fall into hibernation. The study is designed for 5 years, it will mainly involve volunteers.

Does the treatment of the site from ticks harm pets?

Weekly magazine “Arguments and Facts” No. 25. A difficult task. What has school education come to? 23/06/2021

Can the treatment of a dacha plot from ticks harm people and animals and is it safe to eat the harvest from the treated beds?

The expert’s answer is 0 + –

Responds to & nbsp;Dr. Sergey Agapkin, host of the program “About the most important” :

— Acaricidal treatment — spraying of drugs based on cypermethrin — is harmful for cold-blooded people. People and animals are not allowed to go to the site within an hour after treatment. During this time, the active substance crystallizes and no longer poses a special danger to them. Treatment is not recommended if there are fruits that will be consumed in food in the next 3 weeks and during flowering and pollination (the drug is deadly for bees).

In India, the Nipah virus, which is deadly for humans, was discovered

Scientists from the National Institute of Virology of India reported the detection of the Nipah virus (NiV) in bats in the state of Maharashtra. A preprint of the article appeared in the Journal of Infections and Public Health.

The World Health Organization calls this virus one of the most dangerous in the world, in nature it is usually fixed in flying foxes and mice. It is specified that it can cause inflammation of the brain (encephalitis) or respiratory diseases.

A person can get infected with this virus if he eats fruits that have got saliva from a sick animal. To date, there is no medicine or vaccine for this disease, while the death rate reaches 40-75%.

“The repeated outbreaks of this virus, the high mortality rate, human-to-human transmission and the lack of effective vaccines or antiviral drugs are of serious concern in India. Many places of accumulation of bats have been found in areas where many people live, ” the article says.

It is known that the Nipah was first registered in the Indian state of West Bengal in 2001 and 2007. Since March 2020, scientists have examined samples of 80 mice of the species Rousettus leschenaultii and Pipistrellus Pipistrellus living in the cave of Mahabaleshwar, finding RNA and antibodies to the virus in them.

Earlier, India reported the first 20 cases of infection with a new variety of a local strain of coronavirus, called “delta plus”. To date, several deaths have been registered due to this mutation.
