Russia may ban the use of scooters heavier than 35 kg on sidewalks

Vladimir Lugovenko, Deputy Director of the Department of State Policy in the field of automobile and Urban Passenger Transport of the Ministry of Transport, said that the agency proposes to ban the use of electric scooters heavier than 35 kg on sidewalks, the relevant amendments to the traffic regulations are being discussed with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, reports TASS. 

According to Lugovenko, the innovation is the distribution of electric scooters by weight. 

In addition, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation agree to equate people moving on roller skates and scooters without engines with pedestrians, previously this situation was repeatedly discussed when considering amendments to the traffic regulations. 

“That is, we leave this norm as such and regulate only vehicles equipped with an engine,” Lugovenko stressed.

Earlier it was reported that the speed of electric scooters and gyroscuters in Russia can be limited to 20 km/h and introduce new road signs regulating the movement of such vehicles.
