The duration of natural immunity in patients with COVID-19 has been determined

Scientists from Sweden and Italy conducted a study that showed that in the majority of patients with coronavirus in the first six months, antibodies gradually decreased, and then remained stable for up to 15 months.

Moreover, the high level of antibodies remained longer in people who had been ill in severe form. The article is published on the website bioRxiv.org.

Specialists measured the titers of anti-S and anti-RBD antibodies in the blood plasma of patients. The former target the coronavirus S-protein, and the latter target the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the S-protein, which plays a key role in binding the virus to human cells.

In addition to the main strain, the authors tested the effectiveness of antibodies against beta, gamma and delta variants of the virus.

It turned out that the neutralizing activity of antibodies, although to a lesser extent, is preserved for these strains.

Meanwhile, against the background of an increase in the incidence of coronavirus, experts say that revaccination is necessary, since after six months the antibody titer may be lower than it is required to protect the body from infection. About what are the rules of revaccination and whether it is necessary to prepare for it somehow, read the article AIF.
