Student Valeria Bashkirova, accused of committing an accident, the victims of which were two young children, appealed against her arrest, TASS reports, referring to the press service of the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow.

On the afternoon of July 16, an 18-year-old Bashkirova driving a Mazda car hit three and five-year-old boys and a nine-month-old girl in a stroller at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. They were crossing the road together with two adults.

The children were seriously injured, they were hospitalized. The injured boys later died in hospital.

The student was charged with violating traffic rules that caused the death of two or more people by negligence, she faces up to seven years in prison.

On July 19, the Tverskoy Court, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, changed the measure of restraint for the accused from house arrest to detention until September 16.

Valeria Bashkirova received her driver’s license last year, after the accident, no traces of alcohol were found in her blood. The case against her is being investigated by the metropolitan glavk of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
