US cargo ship docked to the ISS

The ISS crew has completed the docking of the Cygnus cargo ship of the American company Northrop Grumman, which delivered 3.7 tons of payloads to the station, reports TASS.

According to NASA, it took more than three and a half hours to complete the docking process after remotely capturing the ship using the Canadarm 2 manipulator arm. The operation was carried out by astronauts Megan MacArthur and Tom Peske. The broadcast was conducted on the corporation’s website.

The spacecraft should stay in orbit for about three months, then it will pick up garbage from the station and in about 14 days it will burn up in the dense layers of the atmosphere.

The American Antares launch vehicle with the Cygnus cargo spacecraft of Northrop Grumman Corporation launched to the International Space Station on Tuesday.

The space truck delivered food and equipment to the ISS, in particular, a 3D printer, which uses a material that simulates the soil of the Moon. It is intended to test the possibility of its use in the construction of various structures in future missions.

Earlier, NASA representative Daniel Huot said that the United States and international partners have committed to provide funding for the International Space Station until at least 2024.
