What kind of black box of Earth will be built in Australia?

The Black Box of Earth will be built on the west coast of the Australian island of Tasmania by the end of 2022. This was reported on December 6 by the ABC Broadcasting Corporation. It is expected that the design will be used to record data on the last decades of human civilization in the event of a global climate catastrophe.

How will Earth’s black box look and work?

The black box of the Earth will begin to be erected in the middle of next year. It will be a 10-meter monolith with steel walls 7.5 centimeters thick. The structure will have a granite base.

A lot of storage devices will be placed inside the box, which will be connected to the Internet. The system will be able to work from solar panels, which will be located on the roof of the structure. With the help of solar energy, the black box will receive scientific data, and the algorithm will search the Internet and collect materials related to climate change. They will relate to measuring the temperature of the earth and the sea, ocean acidification, extinction of various species, changes in land use, population, energy consumption, etc.

The authors of the project hope that if climate change leads to a global catastrophe, the descendants of earthlings will be able to access information and learn from it, and if possible, bring the leaders who allowed the tragedy to justice.

Writing data to the black box hard drives has already begun. The developers believe that the project will be able to store and record data for the next 30–50 years.
