Which animals are vaccinated in American zoos?

First of all, the vaccination will be given to animals that are at the greatest risk of contracting coronavirus. These are primates, cats (lions, tigers and snow leopards) and martens (ferrets and North American river otters).

Vaccination is carried out with a drug from Zoetis (a division of Pfizer). The vaccination consists of two doses, which are administered at intervals of four weeks.

Earlier, local media reported that bears, baboons, hyenas, etc. are also being vaccinated against coronavirus in other American zoos. It is noted that vaccination in zoos is carried out not only to protect the animals themselves, but also to reduce the risk of mutation of the virus in their body, and then re-transmission to people in a new form.
