The Russian government congratulated Muratov on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize

The Government of the Russian Federation congratulated the editor-in-chief of the “New Newspaper” Dmitry Muratov, who became a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. This was stated by the press secretary of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Boris Belyakov.

He noted that this is a well-deserved award and a worthy assessment of Muratov’s talent, high professionalism, and his loyalty to his beliefs.

Belyakov recalled that the prize winner is engaged in charity, helps sick children.

Muratov was also congratulated by the first President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev, who received the same award in 1990. According to him, the award of the prize to a Russian journalist is a real event.

“This is an excellent addition to our ranks, among the Nobel laureates. This award raises the importance of the press in the modern world to a great height,” says a message on the Gorbachev Foundation’s website.

Recall that together with Muratov, the prize was awarded to the American-Filipino journalist Maria Resse.

Earlier, Muratov noted that his award belongs to all employees of “nOvaya Gazeta”.
