Forecaster: snowdrifts may grow up to 50 cm in Moscow by the end of the month

By the end of January in Moscow, the height of snowdrifts will reach half a meter at a rate of 30 centimeters. This was announced by the leading specialist of the weather center “Phobos” Evgeny Tishkovets, “Novye Izvestia” reports with reference to the media.

By the end of January, another 7-12 millimeters of precipitation will fall in the capital. At the same time, Moscow has already received 14% more than the long-term norm of precipitation. The height of the snow cover exceeds the normal values by one and a half times, the forecaster said.

Now the height of the snowdrifts is 46 centimeters at the VDNKh weather station, 48 centimeters at Balchug, Tishkovets added.

Earlier it was reported that 16 flights were canceled at Krasnodar airport due to snowfall. A high-alert mode has been introduced in most areas of the region.
