The Nazi criminal Helmut Oberlander died at the age of 98 in Canada, without waiting for deportation, the CBC TV channel reports.

According to available information, the Nazi accomplice died on September 22 at his home in Ontario, surrounded by relatives.

In Russia, Oberlander is accused of involvement in the murder of more than 200 children from an orphanage in 1942. According to the investigation, during the war he served as an interpreter in the SS-10 Sonderkommando, this unit was involved in a number of crimes in the Kuban in 1942 and 1943, in particular, in the mass murder of children in Yeysk.

In 2017, the court found Helmut Oberlander guilty of committing war crimes and deprived him of Canadian citizenship. Oberlander was supposed to be deported, in early September, the immigration department of the Council of Canada suspended hearings on his deportation from the country.

Earlier, the TFR opened a case on the fact of the execution of civilians by the Nazis near Orel during the Great Patriotic War.
