Lawyer: Ismailov received asylum because of the decision of the Zurich Prosecutor’s office

The former owner of the Cherkizovsky market Telman Ismailov received political asylum in Montenegro because of the decision of the Zurich prosecutor’s office to close a money laundering case against him, TASS reports with reference to Ismailov’s lawyer Marina Rusakova.

“The document that played a decisive role in granting Telman Ismailov political asylum was submitted to the Montenegrin court from the Zurich Prosecutor’s Office,” she said.

Rusakova explained that the case was closed on January 5 of this year, and also added that her client received compensation in the amount of more than 15,000 Swiss francs.

According to the lawyer, the decision of the supervisory authority on the termination of the case indicated “false information provided in support of the Russian side of Ismailov’s guilt”. In particular, according to the document, the bank provided false information about the sentencing of Ismailov in a number of criminal cases.

Recall that Telman Ismailov was charged in absentia with the murder of businessmen Vladimir Savkin and Yuri Brylev, illegal arms trafficking and the abduction of singer Avraham Russo. He was arrested by the Podgorica court on October 2 at the request of the Russian Federation.

On October 22, Ismailov received political asylum in Montenegro, and the businessman was released from the detention center. In addition, the country refused to extradite him to Russia.

The day before, the head of the RF IC, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed to study the grounds for refusing to extradite from Montenegro the ex-owner of the Cherkizovsky market, Telman Ismailov.
