Military personnel were required to take drug tests

The requirement of mandatory tests for narcotic substances, as well as visits to a psychologist, was included in the Charter of the internal Service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The corresponding decree of President Vladimir Putin was published on the official portal of legal information on July 12.

“Military personnel are obliged to know and comply with the safety requirements of military service, takes care of preserving their health,” the document says. In particular, they are required to undergo medical examinations, medical and psychological rehabilitation, as well as chemical and toxicological studies of the presence of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their metabolites in the human body. It is clarified that the requirements are extended to those who are serving under a contract.

The document also includes amendments to the list of situations in which a serviceman is considered to perform the duties of military service. Such situations include participation in activities to maintain or restore international peace and security, as well as the fight against terrorism outside the territory of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law strengthening state control over the circulation of weapons and tightening the passage of medical examinations for obtaining a permit to own them.
