Roscosmos: the ISS operation is planned to be completed by 2028

The Scientific and Technical Council of Roscosmos recommended that work on the creation of a technical project for a new orbital station be included in the Federal Space Program – 2025.

According to the press service of Roscosmos, the recommendation was given in order to eliminate the risks associated with the technical condition of the Russian segment of the ISS, and the planned completion of its operation by 2028.

It is noted that RSC Energia will analyze the state of the Russian segment of the station and take measures to maintain its operability during the creation of a new one. In addition, a scenario for the completion of the ISS operation, agreed with partners, will be developed.

In the spring of this year, it was reported that the state of the International Space Station leaves much to be desired, so the Russian Federation can focus on creating its own orbital station. The Energy Corporation should ensure the readiness of the first basic module for the new station in 2025, its preliminary design will begin before the end of this summer.

Earlier on Saturday, July 31, Russian cosmonauts reported a drop in pressure in the ISS module due to an air leak. The pressure in the transition chamber of the module “Star”, where the cracks were found, fell to 154 mm of mercury. Roscosmos promised that it will be raised to normal values within a day.
