Russian ships and aircraft conducted maneuvers in the Mediterranean Sea

The ships of the Russian Navy at the exercises in the Mediterranean Sea conducted a training of air defense forces and repelled the attack of a conditional enemy, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reports.

As part of the joint exercise, the crews of MiG-31K aircraft and Tu-22M3 long-range bombers made regular training flights in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. MiG-31K performed electronic missile launches on a simulated enemy.

The crews of five ships of the Russian Navy, including the missile cruiser “Moscow”, repelled the attack of a conditional enemy. Special attention was paid to countering aircraft, helicopters and drones.

Earlier, the military department said that MiG-31K aircraft with the latest hypersonic missiles from the “Dagger” complex and the Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft were relocated to Syria to participate in the maneuvers.

The ministry clarified that five ships are involved in the exercises, including the missile cruiser “Moscow”, the frigates “Admiral Essen” and “Admiral Makarov”, as well as two submarines “Stary Oskol” and “Rostov-on-Don”.

Recall that Russia is conducting large-scale exercises in the far sea zone of the Pacific Ocean. Up to 20 surface warships, submarines and support vessels take part in the maneuvers.
