In the USA, scientists experimenting with LED lamps have picked up wavelengths that penetrate human cells without harming them, but hitting the coronavirus there. The study was published in the journal Scientific Reports.
Experts have identified a safe range of blue waves for humans, which kills SARS-CoV-2 regardless of whether it is outside or inside a living cell.
They found that the 425-nanometer waves, almost entirely in the visible part of the spectrum, did not harm the tissues.
Low doses of such light were enough to reduce the viral load, and higher doses showed a 99.9% reduction in infection without adversely affecting the viability of cells that were not infected by the virus.
