The TPU researchers explained that with the traditional method of cultivating plants, some of the water and most of the chemicals are mixed with ground water and do not reach the roots. Scientists have proposed using polymer hydrogels as an additive to the soil.
The biodegradable hydrogel is able to store a lot of water, and then slowly release it as the soil dries. Russians, using the gel, will be able to water the garden about once a week, said researcher Antonio Di Martino.
It is noted that now TPU scientists are preparing the technology to enter the market.The average service life of hydrogels is several weeks. It can be used in large farms and horticulture.
