Smog in Yakutsk

Yakutsk was covered with smoke from forest fires. Because of it, the sky is not visible, there is a strong smell of burning. According to Rospotrebnadzor, the maximum permissible concentration of suspended particles in the air is 20 times higher than the norm. The head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, declared August 13 a day off in 11 municipal districts and urban districts due to smog caused by forest fires.

Since August 8, a regional emergency regime has been introduced in Yakutia in connection with the transition of forest fires on the territory of settlements and economic objects. Due to low visibility, the local airport does not accept planes, and the operation of the ferry crossing is limited. Emergency services and medics have been transferred to an enhanced mode of operation.
