The first launch of the underwater version of the hypersonic missile “Zircon” will be carried out from the nuclear submarine “Severodvinsk” in October, TASS reports, citing a source in the military-industrial complex.
He clarified that the launch will take place as part of flight design tests from the surface of the White Sea.
“Depending on the results, the second launch may be carried out in November from under water for a sea target,” the agency source added.
He also said that the planned first launch of “Zircon” from the submarine “Severodvinsk” in September was postponed due to the need to carry out all technical training activities.
The hypersonic cruise missile “Zircon” is capable of reaching a speed of about Mach 9 and hitting sea and land targets at a distance of more than 1 thousand km.
The day before, it was reported about the successful completion of flight design tests of the newest hypersonic missile “Zircon” from the surface carrier frigate “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov”.
