The Angarsk city Court sentenced a former policeman, “Angarsk maniac” Mikhail Popkov, who previously received two life sentences for 81 murders and in 2020 confessed to two more episodes, to nine years and eight months in a penal colony, the press service of the SU TFR in the Irkutsk region reported.

It is noted that, taking into account the previous sentences, Popkov was given a final sentence in the form of life imprisonment with serving in a special regime colony.

The court began considering the case against Popkov at the end of May.In July last year, the investigator for particularly important cases of the SU TFR in the Irkutsk region, Yevgeny Karchevsky, said that Popkov himself wanted to confess to the crime. 

In January 2015, he was found guilty of murdering 22 women and causing grievous bodily harm to two others. The court sentenced him to two life sentences.

Then Popkov confessed to the murder of 59 more women, the second sentence was handed down to him in December 2018.
