Plot The situation around the violation of the Russian border in the Black Sea by a British destroyer
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation regards the dangerous actions of the destroyer Defender of the British Navy in the Black Sea as a gross violation of the UN Convention, the press service of the military department reports.
As previously reported, the British vessel crossed the border of the Russian Federation and entered the territorial sea for three kilometers near Cape Fiolent.
According to the defense ministry, the crew of the British vessel was warned about the possible use of weapons in the event of continuing illegal stay in the territorial waters of the Russian Federation, but did not respond to explicit warning signals in accordance with maritime law.
In this regard, the Russian patrol ship was forced to perform a warning fire on the course of the British ship. In order to provide additional warning, the Russian Su-24M aircraft performed a warning bombing.
The Russian Defense Ministry also calls on the British side to conduct a thorough investigation of the actions of the ship’s crew to prevent similar incidents in the future.
At the same time, the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom rejects the accusations of the Russian side. The ministry’s message, distributed on Twitter, says that the destroyer Defender made a peaceful passage through the territorial waters of Ukraine in accordance with international law.The head of the British Defense Ministry, Ben Wallace, in turn, made a statement that the destroyer was moving in an internationally recognized traffic separation corridor off the coast of Crimea.
