US student Reed will not apply for clemency

American student Trevor Reed, who was convicted in Russia for attacking police officers, will not file a petition addressed to the President of the Russian Federation for clemency, TASS reports.

It is noted that Victoria Buklova, Reed’s lawyer, told the agency about this.

“A pardon implies a confession of guilt, and our client does not admit guilt. At the same time, theoretically, Reed can be exchanged for one of the convicted Russian citizens in the United States, for further serving his sentence in America, ” she said.

Buklova stressed that according to the defense, the entire body of evidence, including a number of examinations, confirms the innocence of Trevor Reed. In addition, the lawyer announced her intention to appeal the verdict of the American student in cassation.

Recall that the incident occurred in Moscow on August 16, 2019. Residents of the Leningrad highway reported to the police that a man was arguing with two women near one of the houses. Police officers arrived at the scene, the attacker resisted them, and on the way to the police station attacked the driver and hit his partner.

In July 2020, the Golovinsky Court in Moscow sentenced a student from the United States, Trevor Reed, to nine years in a penal colony for attacking law enforcement officers. On June 28, 2021, the Moscow City Court upheld the decision to sentence Reed to nine years in a penal colony.

The convicted person does not admit guilt.According to Reed, he was under the influence of alcohol and does not remember what happened.
