When is the first snow expected in Moscow?

The first snow will fall in Moscow on Tuesday, October 19. This was announced by the leading employee of the weather center “Phobos” Evgeny Tishkovets in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Why October 19th?

On October 19, forecasters predict a polar invasion in the rear of the North Atlantic cyclone.

“With such a borderline state of the air in some areas of Central Russia and in Moscow, mixed with rain in some places, the probability of the first small wet snow is not excluded,” Tishkovets said.

How heavy will the snow be?

The forecaster clarified that the snow will have a “symbolic, local, fleeting character”. It will melt in the air, the snow cover will not form yet.

According to Tishkovets, the polar invasion cannot be considered an early onset of meteorological winter. It will come almost according to the climatic schedule after November 10th.

“But in any case, as it usually happens at the end of October, this is the first call from the upcoming white-toothed winter, which will be Russian, snowy and moderately cold,” the specialist said.

How else will the polar invasion affect the weather?

Due to the polar invasion in the rear of the North Atlantic cyclone, October 19 will noticeably get colder. At night the temperature will drop to zero, during the day the thermometer will show +3…+8°.

On the night of Wednesday, October 20, icy conditions are possible in places. “The heavenly moisture that fell the day before can freeze in some places and turn into icy saucers in some places,” explained Tishkovets.
