The mother of Russian businessman Viktor Bout, Raisa Bout, appealed to Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden ahead of their meeting in Geneva, asking them to agree on the return of her son to Russia. “I appeal to you with a plea for the return of my son to his homeland. I am almost 85 years old, and if he has to be in a US prison for another half of the term, I will most likely not wait for him to go to America to visit my son, I can no longer for health reasons, “wrote Raisa Booth.” I ask you, as a mother who has been waiting for her son for many years: arrange something between you so that my son can return to me while I am alive.”
Raisa Booth also noted that her childhood was during the Great Patriotic War, at the end of which she was already old enough to understand that America and the USSR fought together against the fascists. “And then, no matter how bad the relationship was between us, we never went to war with each other. I believe that Russia and America will always be able to agree and understand each other. Our countries have managed to do this more than once, ” the appeal also says.
“My son is not a terrorist, he is a businessman,” the judge said during the trial in New York. I respect the judge’s opinion, – also wrote Booth. – Victor has already lost 13 years of his life. And his life, and mine, and the life of his wife and daughter, my granddaughter, who grew up without a father. We are all very much waiting for Victor and hope for your participation and sincere generosity.
She also asked the leaders of the two countries to think about other families of Russians and Americans whose loved ones are imprisoned in other countries, and to give them a chance to be close, and not at such a great distance from each other.
Bout was arrested in Thailand at the request of the United States in 2008 and taken to this country. In 2012, a jury in New York found him guilty of conspiracy to murder American citizens and material support for terrorism. He was given the minimum sentence for the articles that he was charged with, 25 years in prison. To date, he has served more than half of that sentence. He pleads not guilty.
Earlier, the wife of Russian Viktor Bout, who is serving a sentence in an American prison, said that her husband began to have inflammation of his teeth.
