NASA considers it possible to operate the ISS until 2028

NASA expects that it will be able to support the work of the ISS at least until 2028, reports TASS.

This was reported by the representative of the American department, Stephanie Schirholz, during a conversation with the agency’s correspondents.

Earlier, Roscosmos said that the operation of the Russian segment of the ISS after 2024 creates additional risks due to the aging of a significant part of its equipment. In this regard, it was proposed to create a Russian manned space complex in low Earth orbit.

Commenting on this message, Schirholz said that NASA expects that they will be able to support the work of the ISS at least until 2028 or longer. At the same time, the agency continues to update the technical analysis of the service life of the space station.

According to the representative of the department, the goal of NASA is a continuous presence in low-Earth orbit in order to be able to move from the ISS to another platform that will allow this work to continue.

Earlier, the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, denied reports of readiness to extend the operation of the International Space Station until 2030. He also said that Russia’s withdrawal from the ISS project depends on the US decisions on sanctions against the RCC “Progress” and TsNIIMash.
