41 years ago, the whole country, with bated breath, watched the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games-80, which was held in Moscow. The highlight of that event was the launch of the Olympic Bear, whose height was 8 meters. Glavarchiv decided to remind you how it all was.

On August 3, 1980, the closing ceremony of the XXII Summer Olympic Games was held in Luzhniki, and then at the Central Stadium named after V. I. Lenin. The closing ceremony of the Games started at 19 hours 29 minutes 30 seconds. The Kremlin chimes sounded, after which the audience saw 170 fanfarists, and the emblem of the Moscow Olympics, formed from colored flags, appeared above the stands. Immediately, athletes with hoops and ribbons, girls and boys in Russian traditional costumes began to come to the stadium. The banners of the participating countries and the flags of the International and National Olympic Committee appeared.

The Olympic rings appeared on the central podium, near which all the participants of the solemn parade were lined up. And then the flag of the USSR and the flag of Los Angeles, which took the Olympic relay, were raised. The President of the International Olympic Committee, Lord Michael Killanin He made a speech in which he declared the Games of the XXII Summer Olympics closed. The Olympic flag itself was lowered.

Then girls in tunics lined up around the bowl with the Olympic flame, imitating the compositions of ancient Greek frescoes, and the Olympic flame, which had been burning for 16 days, went out.

At the end of the ceremony, athletes and artists in Russian folk costumes carried an eight-meter Olympic Bear to the center of the stadium, which then soared above the participants and the audience to the song of Alexandra Pakhmutova to the words of Nikolai Dobronravov: “Goodbye, Moscow, goodbye! Olympic fairy tale, goodbye! Wish your wishes come true, wish a new meeting to your friends!»

So, under the volleys of festive fireworks, the landmark event of 1980 ended-the XXII Summer Olympic Games, which became a symbol of an entire era.

In general, 74 Olympic and 36 world records were set at the Olympics-80. The victory in the team competition was won by Soviet athletes, who won 80 gold, 69 silver and 46 bronze medals.
