Patrushev discussed the situation in Afghanistan by phone with his colleague from Iran

The head of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, held a telephone conversation with the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Shamkhani, the press service of the Security Council staff reports.

During the conversation, the parties discussed Russian-Iranian cooperation in the field of security, as well as the situation in Afghanistan.

Earlier, Patrushev spoke about the updated National Security Strategy.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon reported on the deterioration of the security situation in Afghanistan, noting that the militants of the radical movement “Taliban” (banned in the Russian Federation) are increasing the pace of the offensive. So, last week, the Taliban took control of several main districts of the city of Talukan, the administrative center of the Afghan province of Takhar.
