Vladimir Putin awarded the title of Colonel-General of the Internal Service to Arkady Gostev, who was appointed head of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) at the end of November.

The presidential decree is posted on the official website of legal information.

On November 25, Putin dismissed Alexander Kalashnikov, the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service, and appointed Arkady Gostev in his place. Prior to that, he held the post of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation with the rank of Colonel-General of the police.

Earlier it was reported that Russia wants to toughen the punishment for torture of prisoners. The corresponding bill has been submitted to the State Duma.
