Residents of the Moscow region were warned about the invasion of “snow fleas”

The accumulation of “snow fleas” in the Moscow region does not pose a danger, said a researcher at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Biology, Department of General Ecology and Hydrobiology Vadim Maryinsky, reports the TV channel 360. 

According to him, “snow fleas” are wingless creatures that belong to the leg-tailed group. 

“They are absolutely harmless to humans, pets, and plants,” said Maryinsky. 

Nogohvostok can be seen in other seasons, there are species that are active in the spring, during the melting of snow, it is then that they are clearly visible against the background of snowdrifts. At the same time, clusters of these creatures can reach large scales, he concluded.

Let’s add that adults of “snow fleas” reach a length of 1.5-2.5 mm, the body is covered with hairs, the body color is black. These fleas jump high and feel comfortable at temperatures from −10 to +10 degrees. Such fleas live around some reservoirs and glaciers of central Europe.
