The Cabinet of Ministers approved the list of greenhouse gases to be accounted for

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed an order necessary to launch a system of state accounting of greenhouse gas emissions in the country from next year, the government’s press service reports.

Among the substances to be accounted for are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, nitrous oxide, sulfur hexafluoride, hydrofluorocarbons and perfluorocarbons, as well as nitrogen trifluoride.

The list is based on the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Concept of the formation of a system for monitoring greenhouse Gas Emissions, approved by the Government in 2015.

The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers noted that the order is aimed at implementing the law on limiting greenhouse gas emissions signed by the president in July. The document assumes the introduction of mandatory reporting for large enterprises and the creation of a special information system where these data will be entered. Mechanisms to encourage investment in climate projects are also proposed. In particular, we are talking about the restoration of forests or the modernization of industrial facilities based on resource-saving technologies.

In addition, it is planned to set targets for limiting emissions, taking into account the President’s instructions to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions accumulated from 2021 to 2050 to lower values than in the EU.

Earlier АиФ.ги He gave the scientists’ answer to the questions of who benefits from global warming and whether it is true that this theory was invented specifically to strengthen the dominance of developed countries and curb the growth of competing countries, including Russia.
