The Russian environmental Operator (REO) spoke about the difficulties of processing cosmetics packaging, RIA Novosti reports.
It is noted that the most harmful product from the point of view of the possibility of processing is a compact. It consists of metal, plastic, a mirror and the cosmetic product itself.
“And it seems impossible to divide this small box into parts that can be sent for recycling,” the REO stressed.
Nail polish also belongs to the category of difficult-to-process. This is hazardous waste, they are disposed of by specialized enterprises. However, such packaging is usually accepted only from legal entities.
Lipstick, mascara, eyeliners, brushes, fabric masks, hand cream are sent to the mixed waste tank after use. Only clean waste is accepted for recycling.
“Therefore, the REO calls for purchasing cosmetics in the simplest packaging, which can be 100% recycled,” the message says.
The organization clarified that simple plastic bottles, glass containers, aluminum and paper packages are subject to processing.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Alexander Kozlov said that the final ban on the production of disposable plastic goods in Russia is planned to be introduced in 2024. The agency has sent a proposal to the Ministry of Industry and Trade to ban the use of 28 types of disposable goods and packaging.
