The State Duma adopted a law on the extrajudicial blocking of sites that defame the honor of Russians

The State Duma adopted a draft law in the final reading, according to which, without a court decision, access to sites where there is unreliable or discrediting the honor and dignity of a citizen of the Russian Federation, including information related to the accusation of committing crimes, will be restricted.

To take protective measures, it is necessary to submit an appropriate application to the prosecutor’s office of the region, attaching to it documents confirming the falsity of the information posted.

The application and the information contained therein will be reviewed and verified for validity within 10 days. Based on the results of the audit, the supervisory authority will draw up a conclusion on the existence of grounds for deleting such information.

Then, the validity of the conclusion adopted by the regional prosecutor’s office will be checked within five days by the Prosecutor General’s Office. If the information provided is confirmed, the agency will require Roskomnadzor to take measures to remove false information, RIA Novosti reports.

At the end of May, Roskomnadzor blocked the fake website of the preliminary vote of “United Russia”. The information posted there was misleading to voters and candidates.
