The duration of the seasons in Russia is changing against the background of global warming, over the past 25 years, the winter period in the Russian regions has decreased by at least seven days. This was announced by the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand in an interview with TASS.
“Now it can be argued that the duration of the winter period is decreasing,” he said.
It is noted that the winters on the territory of the country can warm up by 3-5 degrees in 30 years due to global warming, their conditions are approaching Western European. However, such changes in the climate will not cancel out severe frosts, the expert said.
“If there is a cold snap, it will be serious. Rare, but strong, ” Vilfand emphasized.
Summer is also changing in Russia, but less actively. According to the forecaster, it becomes longer on average by one to three days.
At the same time, as the agency’s interlocutor clarified, global warming will not be able to lead to the absence of spring and autumn periods in the future.
Recall that last February in Russia was the coldest in nine years.
