In Syria, 24 people were executed for burning forests in 2020

The Syrian Ministry of Justice reported that 24 people convicted of deliberately setting fire to a forest were executed last year, BBC News reports.

It is reported that the arson attacks were qualified as “terrorist acts”.

It is noted that eleven more people were sentenced to life imprisonment, and five minors were sentenced to prison terms from 10 to 12 years.

Earlier, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation reported that a fire in the peat bogs in Yekaterinburg could have occurred due to arson. 

Experts of the department believe that arson is the most likely cause of fires in peat bogs.

The report says that due to the fires, a fire-technical examination was organized. According to its results, the materials will be transferred to the investigative authorities.
