In Sochi, a continuous monitoring of the water level in the rivers is organized due to the expected prolonged rains with thunderstorms. This was announced on Friday by the mayor of the city Alexey Kopaygorodsky.
“A powerful cyclone has come to the Krasnodar Territory,” the mayor wrote in his Telegram channel. He added that the storm warning in the region is valid until August 16. In this regard, on behalf of the governor Veniamin Kondratiev, the water level in the rivers is continuously monitored in the resort city. “The situation is being monitored around the clock,” Kopaygorodsky stressed.
Until Monday, the operational headquarters will work around the clock in the city. The authorities have warned Sochi residents living in areas of possible flooding to be ready for evacuation.
In the coming days, forecasters predict prolonged precipitation with thunderstorms in Sochi. Meteorologists do not exclude the occurrence of tornadoes over the sea, as well as the rise of the water level in rivers to unfavorable levels.
Earlier it became known that the state of emergency was introduced due to the deterioration of weather conditions in Anapa and Novorossiysk, Temryuk and Slavyansky districts.
All the beaches of Sochi were closed for swimming due to the announced storm warning.
The rains that began on the night of August 13 will continue in Abinsky, Crimean, Slavyansky, Temryuk, Primorsko-Akhtarsky, Krasnoarmeysky and Kalininsky districts, Gelendzhik, Anapa and Novorossiysk. Up to 150 mm of precipitation is expected to fall there per day. At the same time, a three – month precipitation rate of 120 mm has already fallen in Anapa since the evening of August 12.
