Special forces units of the Central Military District used a new tactic “Tiger Carousel” during the exercises. According to the legend of the exercises, a group of armed men on lightly armored vehicles tried to attack a system of strong points and positions of a military unit. What kind of exercises were they?
The exercises were held at the Shilovo training ground in the Novosibirsk region. More than 500 fighters and about 30 pieces of equipment were involved in them. According to the legend of the maneuvers, an illegal armed formation on lightly armored vehicles, using numerical superiority, tried to attack the system of strong points and positions of special forces.
What was the tactic?
Armored vehicles “Tiger” entered the battle. They rapidly approached the firing distance and destroyed the enemy’s manpower and armored vehicles. Armored vehicles «Tiger» were firing in pairs, alternately from large-caliber machine guns «Cord » and performed a maneuver on machines, which allowed to fire continuously and compensate for the reloading time. “Tiger carousel” is especially in demand when there is not enough information about the enemy’s weapons. Such tactics increase the survivability of combat vehicles.
This is reminiscent of the tactics of the steppe peoples, they surrounded the enemy with light cavalry, fired from bows and rode smartly to a safe distance. After that, they repeated the maneuver, exhausting and irritating the enemy. Historians write that it was quite effective.
Is this an innovative technique?
Not particularly. Such maneuvers were carried out earlier. For example, in the spring of 2020, at the Golovenki training ground in the Moscow region, the crews of the T-80U combat vehicles of the 4th Guards Kantemirov Division conducted firing and practiced maneuvers of the tank carousel, which tactically repeats the tiger one. In the summer of 2021, in the Moscow region, at the Alabino training ground, the crews of T-72B3 tanks performed live firing with the use of the increased rate of fire method. Yes, and in Syria, this tactic was used by Russian tankers.
What kind of equipment participated in the exercises?
“Tiger” is a Russian multi-purpose all-terrain vehicle, armored car, army all-terrain vehicle. The car is designed to transport people and various goods on roads and off-road. It is a chassis of frame construction, which carries the main part of the units and the body. The car body is all-metal single-volumefive-door with a cargo compartment, designed for the transportation of four people and up to 1500 kg of cargo (armored three-door single-volume, designed for the transportation of 6 9 people and 1200 kg of cargo for army and police versions of the car). The cargo compartment is separated from the passenger compartment by a partition, equipped with seats, which can additionally accommodate 2–4 people.
Cord — automatic weapon with tape power (the feed of the tape can be carried out both on the left and on the right). The machine gun is built according to the principle of a gas-discharge machine gun, where a gas piston with a long stroke is placed under the barrel. The barrel is quick-change, air-cooled.
