WHO gave recommendations to combat the spread of “black mold”

The World Health Organization advises to minimize the use of hormonal drugs and antibiotics in the treatment of coronavirus, so as not to get a fungal infection. This was told to RIA Novosti by the representative of the WHO in Russia, Melita Vujinovich.

According to the expert, a number of fungal infections found in patients with COVID-19 in India are associated with yeast or mold. They cause mucormycosis or “black fungus” in a person with a weakened immune system.

It is specified that we are talking about those who suffer from diabetes or other chronic diseases, in particular, cancer, as well as those who have been taking certain medications for a long time. In addition, the immune system is weakened by a coronavirus infection.

“The WHO recommends minimizing the disproportionate use of corticosteroids and antibiotics for mild and moderate cases,” Vujnovic said.

In addition, biomedical equipment, including fans, should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Earlier, the WHO reported that Russia is unlikely to face an epidemic of “black mold”. Meanwhile, in India, the number of cases of mucormycosis reached 40,845, 3,129 people died.
