Extreme energy. How will the developments of scientists affect the development of the Arctic

Plot National projects

At the end of September, thanks to the national project “Science and Universities”, the world-class scientific and educational center (REC) “North” territory of sustainable development” received subsidies for the opening of 6 youth laboratories. Some of them are already in operation, the rest will open in the near future. REC projects are aimed at developing the infrastructure of the northern territories of Russia. This is very important for the regions located beyond the Arctic Circle. And the strengthening of the economy of the North will affect the economy of the country as a whole.

We talk about how the developments of Russian scientists will allow Russia to strengthen its strategic presence in the Arctic.

“The North is the territory of sustainable development”

The theme of October in the Year of Science and Technology — «Energy of the Future ». For the development of the Arctic territories, Russian scientists are developing technologies capable of providing energy to settlements and facilities built in extreme permafrost conditions.

This year, the REC “North” territory of sustainable development” presented a project of a large-scale technological platform for the development and testing of full-cycle hydrogen technologies. It will allow remote infrastructure facilities to operate autonomously regardless of climatic conditions and fuel supplies. The use of hydrogen in the Arctic is relevant and is due to the prevalence of a resource suitable for extracting finished fuel — water. The process of obtaining it can be autonomously organized at a polar station or in a remote settlement.

Thanks to the national project «Science and Universities » 6 laboratories are being opened in the REC «North — territory of Sustainable development », the purpose of which is to promote the development of young scientists and the employment of promising researchers. So, on the basis of the NEFU named after M.K. Ammosov, the laboratory “Computational technologies for modeling multiphysical and multiscale cryolithozone processes” has been launched, solving problems from several appliedareas. In addition, NEFU will operate a laboratory of radiation technologies and polymer composites for the North. Using computational methods, scientists will be able to assess the impact of global warming on the rate of thawing of soils in the polar territories. This will provide the builders of the Arctic infrastructure with data on the state of soils, and environmentalists will receive information for the analysis of man-made and natural causes of climate change in specific localities.

Two youth laboratories are being launched on the basis of the Yakut Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. And a laboratory of electrochemical sources for renewable energy was opened at Sakhalin State University. It will focus on the creation of new energy storage facilities for Sakhalin and the Kuriles based on solar panels and wind turbines, the study of accumulation andconsumption of hydrogen. The laboratory is being created in partnership with the Institute of Problems of Chemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The production and use of hydrogen is one of the strategic priorities of scientific and technological development of the Sakhalin region, which can secure a leading position among the subjects of the Russian Federation in the field of hydrogen energy.

Autonomous Energy Research and Technology Center

The Scientific and Technological Center of Autonomous Energy as part of the Institute of Arctic Technologies of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (STC AT MIPT) was established in 2017. Today it is one of the leading centers where Arctic energy projects are being developed. It consists of four laboratories and an engineering center.

In the harsh conditions of the Arctic, the wind speed often reaches 15-20 m/s, and in some areas reaches up to 50 m/s. Difficult weather conditions require special approaches to the creation of wind turbines. Their design and development are carried out in the laboratory of renewable energy sources. The capacity of the Arctic wind power plant designed here is about 100kilowatt, and it can operate without interruption in completely isolated conditions. The design features allow the generator not to be covered with ice, withstand temperatures up to −50 & deg;S and wind speed of 60 m/s. Using such installations, the northern regions will be able to significantly reduce the share of energy supply costs: in some regions they now reach 37% of the gross product.

The Fuel cell laboratory is developing efficient technologies for converting chemical fuel energy into electrical energy. The efficiency of traditional hydrocarbon fuel in the unfavorable conditions of the North is very small. It is necessary to master solid oxide fuel elements (TTE). Electric generators based on them have an efficiency reaching 60%, and when combined with gas turbines, it can be increased to 70%.

Polar Station “Snowflake”

Together with Russian and international partners, MIPT initiated a project to build a complex of autonomous international Arctic stations “Snowflake”. They will work exclusively on renewable energy sources and hydrogen, and the activities of the stations will be aimed at versatile research of the Arctic, testing of promising technologies in adverse climatic conditions and international cooperation in the field of polar research. In the Year of Science and Technology, the construction of such a station began in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and the project of the complex in the Murmansk Region is in the final stages of preparation.

The International Arctic Station “Snowflake” will become one of the largest scientific infrastructure facilities in the Arctic zone. Thanks to its technological equipment, scientists from all over the world will be able to conduct relevant developments for the development of the Arctic – from life support systems to growing vegetables in extreme conditions. The project will provide “smart specialization” of the region and develop scientific potential in Yamal

The use of traditional types of energy in the conditions of the Far North is difficult, therefore, a complex combining wind generators, solar panels and hydrogen power plants was created to provide electricity to the polar stations “Snowflake”. Projects of promising energy storage devices have been developed.

In total, 15 scientific and educational centers of the world level are currently operating in the country. All of them were created within the framework of the national project “Science and Universities”.

Save a life. How 16 thousand women were helped to save babies?

Weekly magazine “Arguments and Facts” No. 41. Why is bread in Russia’s most important product? 13/10/2021

Moscow summed up the interim results of the charity program to help pregnant women “Save a life”. Temporary shelter, strollers, cribs, diapers, food, training in new professions for 6 years, volunteers have saved 16 thousand children.

Decide for yourself

Such is life that, after learning about pregnancy, many women hear from the father of the child: “Decide for yourself.” This is often followed by a refusal of support from relatives. Left alone with fears, women are forced to take a referral for an abortion. At these moments, volunteers of projects such as “Save a Life” lend a helping hand.

«Said: „Decide for yourself, it’s too early for me to become a father.“. And a few days later he changed his phone number, “says Natalia, a ward of the program.

The girl is 27 years old, lives with her one-year-old son in a small provincial town. The population there is steadily declining. Young people leave for large cities, give birth less and less every year.

According to the government’s forecast, the population of Russia by the end of 2021 will decrease by 535.5 thousand people, by the end of 2022 by another 533.4 thousand

“At first I wanted to keep the child, I even managed to come up with a name. And then they began to intimidate from all sides: you will not be able to feed and clothe, you will grow up without a father, you will begin to take out grievances on the child. She hesitated, took a referral for an abortion,” Natalia recalls.

By the will of fate, the girl managed to get to a crisis psychologist. He helped to understand the situation, told about possible support options. And Natalia, realizing that she was not alone, decided to keep the pregnancy.

Volunteers helped to get a crib, a stroller, baby clothes and hygiene products, even came for discharge. Now they continue to help the young mother. And with those who persistently advised to get rid of the baby, she, as she confessed to us, stopped communicating.

In order for girls like Natasha to be able to ask for help at any time, the “Save a Life” program has launched a free crisis line:

8-800-100-48-77

It works around the clock, 7 days a week.

Geography of care

Psychologists and social workers of the program work in women’s clinics in 106 cities of Russia. 182 specialists are involved. The main task is to provide timely support to a pregnant woman who was forced by circumstances to think about an abortion.

In each case, the help is individual. Someone needs psychological support, someone needs legal support, and it also happens that elementary things are needed: products and things. Some women are given the opportunity to live in a shelter for free, retrain and find a job.

The program builds this work through 59 regional foundations that specialize in supporting women with children.

“The emphasis in our work is on helping women in the regions, especially in villages and villages. You can’t do without local partners here. The participation of regional funds makes it possible to be close to those who need support,” says Ekaterina Markova, the head of the Save a Life program.

The program provides constant support to its regional partner funds: it pays for the work of psychologists, annually sends tons of humanitarian aid, conducts regular training.

“Today, by joint efforts, we have managed to save 16 thousand children, providing their mothers with timely support. If we present the figure more clearly, we will get 1067 kindergarten groups or 640 first grades of school,” Markova sums up.

Help in time

“How sorry I am that I found out about you late. I had an abortion two days ago. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to do it alone, — such messages are painfully perceived by the program staff.

They try to actively advertise the crisis line so that women can seek help in time and there are fewer similar messages.

“Thousands of stands in women’s consultations, banners on the streets and in transport, millions of brochures, the phone number of our crisis line can be found in every region of the country. And yet this is not enough, — tells coordinator of the direction of education and social advertising Evgeny Chesnokov.

This year, according to him, the organization plans to significantly expand the information campaign.

“We are currently negotiating for the number of the crisis line to be placed on the popular test for pregnant women,” Evgeny shared his plans.

Do not throw after childbirth

«Cucumbers to the table», «Goat to the family », «Znayka», «Literate », «Easter in every house », «Become a wizard » — this is only part of the program projects aimed at supporting families with children.

“After the birth of the baby, everything is just beginning, because you can’t leave a woman. We continue to help with things, products, household chemicals. We buy livestock for the wards in the villages, we put greenhouses. We collect children to school, pay for classes with teachers,” the program manager shares.

Every year sweet New Year gifts for kids are delivered to several thousand families.

According to Ekaterina, special attention is paid to targeted assistance: “Sometimes a family urgently needs to replace the boiler or pay for gas connection, repair the roof, which is about to collapse. Many children are sick, funds are needed for medicines and treatment. We try to help».

Sometimes the benefactors of the program perform real miracles. At the end of 2020, for example, they helped a single mother from Novozybkov, Bryansk region, to buy a two-room apartment. And this is not the only such case.

As of today, 115 thousand wards have already received assistance, about 50% are children. For comparison, the population of Pushkino near Moscow is 107 thousand people.

A small warehouse of a large project

Igor and Tatiana the third time they go to the car for packages with children’s things. Every month they park a car full of clothes next to a shopping center in Medvedkovo. There, on the second floor, is the humanitarian center of the “Save a Life” program.

Every day Muscovites bring here strollers, cribs, clothes for children and mothers, hygiene products, household chemicals, food, appliances. Large companies send trucks with products.

“Nothing is delayed for a long time, we promptly send the help of Muscovites to the regions. In winter, warm clothes are especially expected there, the prices of which bite. We have calculated that, on average, clothing assistance saves a family 50 thousand rubles annually. In the regions, this is 2-3 monthly earnings. And if there is no work at all?»— tells the warehouse coordinator Elena.

Meanwhile, Igor and Tatiana returned from the car for the last time with packages in their hands.

“We live in the neighborhood. We learned from neighbors that they accept things for the hinterland here. We know firsthand that life there is not easy. We decided to help. First, we brought the grandchildren’s belongings, now we are attracting friends and colleagues. Every month it turns out to collect a lot of children’s clothes, ” Igor shares on the run.

In their busy schedule of good deeds, the next item is to help their son with grandchildren, you need to have time to get there.

The warehouse has six small rooms that used to be occupied by commercial stores.

“Our work is difficult. They can bring 2 tons of cheese at once, which needs to be lifted to the second floor, sorted and sent to the regions the very next day,” the smiling Alexander shares. He has been working here for the fourth month.

Trucks with regional license plates and branded gazelles of transport companies park near the shopping center almost every week. On such days, sellers who are bored without customers observe the same picture: Alexander, together with the movers of the shopping center, begins to carry on carts and lower heavy boxes onto the street. Unfortunately, there is no elevator.

The nearest funds (for example, from the Ivanovo and Kaluga regions) take the help themselves. To remote regions, assistance from the warehouse is sent by transport companies, the costs are borne by the sender.

Candle for Muscovites

Six years ago Tatiana Pokhilenko She created a charity organization in Kaluga to help local families. For several years, the collected aid had to be stored and given out in a small uncomfortable room on the 4th floor of an office space. Over time, the city authorities noted the social significance of the organization by providing a room on the 1st floor of a residential building.

Today it is a large and well-known organization far beyond the region. The wards are greeted by a sign with the name of the center: “Life”. The name is appropriate, life is boiling here. The organization has 500 wards of families. More than half have many children.

“At first, help for the wards was collected through social networks. Gradually, they started knocking on different doors, talking about our work. Over time, we assembled a team,” recalls Tatiana.

According to her, in such a case, the main thing is to sincerely burn with the desire to help people, then there will be strength not to give up at a difficult moment.

Inside the center is very cozy: warming colors, cleanliness, good repair. A warm atmosphere was also created for the wards, for whom it helps to feel a little more comfortable.

The Life Center is one of the 59 organizations that are included in the Save a Life program. Recently, they again received humanitarian aid from her: stationery and backpacks for schoolchildren from families under her care.

Tatiana admits that it will not be easy to maintain the achieved level of work without the support of Muscovites.

“The program helps not only families in the outback, but also centers like ours,” she explains. — I am a believer when I visit the temple —I put a candle for the health of our patrons in Moscow. We’ll have a hard time without them.”

Not only by deed, but also by word

“No one has talked to us about the family and the choice of a husband before. The most interesting of what I heard, I think „10 facts about the development of a child before birth “. It turns out that there is not a “clot of cells”, but a small person. Now I will definitely never have an abortion. At the next meeting, I really want to talk more about how to choose the right husband,” these are the words of a 9th grader Anastasia.

Such reviews are written by listeners of conversations about starting a family, which are conducted by the program “Save a Life”. The organization is confident that along with social work, it is necessary to conduct educational work. Therefore, in dozens of cities of the country, the lecturers of the program conduct conversations with schoolchildren and students.

Marina 16 years old, she is two months pregnant. The girl’s parents insist on an abortion, the child’s father ran away. The girl herself wants to give birth, she found the number of the crisis line “Save a life” on the Internet.

“Is it worth voicing the obvious reasons for this situation? That’s why we have conversations with young people: we talk about the basics of normal relationships, chastity, family values, secrets of a strong family. Be sure to touch on the topic of the beginning of human life and the stages of development of the child in the womb. The more information the guys have, the more responsibility they have,” says Evgeny Chesnokov.

Special attention is paid to male responsibility in working with the younger generation. They even released a digest “PRO courage”, which is given to the guys after lectures.

Reviving Russia

Helping such a large number of people requires significant efforts from the organizers of the program, daily painstaking work.

Charity only from the outside can seem like a business that is exceptionally pleasing. In reality, everything is different. It is extremely difficult to live with the problems of thousands of people. In this environment, almost everyone is familiar with the term “burnout”. I am not familiar in theory, I am familiar from my own experience.

And no one canceled the personal problems of the volunteers. Just like others, their children get sick, misfortunes happen, there is not enough money, fatigue accumulates.

And yet they do not give up, they find motivation to go forward.

The program booklet says: “Saving lives, we are reviving Russia.”

It is good that there are people in Russia who continue to believe in their Fatherland, and most importantly, they are doing everything possible to revive it.

The Onyx missile was able to destroy ground targets

The modernization procedure made the Onyx rocket universal in terms of targets. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to Alexander Leonov, General Director and designer of the Military Industrial Complex “NPO Mashinostroeniya”, member of the regional council of the Moscow Regional regional branch of the Union of Machine Builders of Russia.

Initially, the missile was used to attack marine objects. For example, it is available in the arsenal of coastal complexes “Bastion”.

However, the modernization will allow it to be put into service with submarines, surface ships, aircraft and land-based coastal missile systems, Leonov said. He stressed that now the missile is unified by carriers and can hit any sea and land targets.

Onyx is a medium-range supersonic missile. It was adopted in the Russian Federation in 2002. In addition, it is used in Vietnam, Syria, India and Indonesia.

Earlier it was reported that China conducted the launch of a planning hypersonic aircraft (GLA), which can carry a nuclear charge.

It’s hard without a “Revolver”. The symbol of the Russian Revolution was given a second life

In Russia, the production of a civilian version of the revolver “Nagant” has been launched. A civilian rifled carbine will be made on the basis of original historical samples of revolvers of different years of manufacture. The weapon will receive a long barrel and a wooden butt, which makes it comply with Russian weapons legislation (the length of the weapon is more than 800 millimeters). The historical prototype of the new-old revolver was an elongated version of the Nagant of the border guard of the Tsarist Army, produced at the very beginning of the 20th century.

Winner by death

The revolver of the Nagant system of the sample of 1895 (GRAU index 56-H-121) is a seven-shot revolver designed and produced by the Belgian industrialists brothers Emil and Leon Nagans for the Russian Empire, which was in service and produced in a number of countries at the end of the XIX – mid-XX century. Let’s recall the history of its adoption.

Before the advent of smokeless gunpowder, the first and only regular Smith-Wesson revolver was in service with the Russian army. The model of a huge caliber of 10.67 mm was designed for smoky powder. Adopted already in 1871, the “American” clearly required replacement. Then the Russian military department finally announced a competition for a new revolver.

The Russian military department has put forward very strict requirements for the new army revolver: 3-line caliber (7.62 mm), simplicity and reliability of the design, high penetration force of the cartridge. Interestingly, the military demanded to reduce the rate of fire, abandoning self-firing, and in addition to this, to abandon the automatic extraction of spent cartridges. Probably, the military was very afraid of the large consumption of cartridges — saving above all.

The favorites in the competition were two Belgian gunsmiths — Leon Nagant with his already well-known revolver of the 1878 model in the world, which underwent two upgrades in 1886 and 1892, and Henri Piper with a revolver «Bayard».

«Bayard» lost due to its higher difficulty. Although there is an opinion that the Nagant won thanks to the connections that Leon personally had in Russia, but his revolver really suited the stated requirements more.

Launched into production in 1895, the revolver began to enter the army quickly. The “nagant” became one of the symbols of the Russian revolution of 1917 and the subsequent civil war, and in the future the word “nagant” became a household word in colloquial speech, so often called any revolver.

Nagan proved himself well in the Russian-Japanese War. Comfortable and unpretentious, he gained respect among officers and soldiers. Then in the First World War, in the fierce trench battles, the revolver distinguished itself by its reliability, it was not terrible to drop it into the sand or mud, shoot in the rain or in the dust.

Only after the end of the Second World War was the nagant removed from service. The reason was primarily the unsatisfactory reloading speed. Nevertheless, nagans served in the police until the end of the 60s, with collectors and special communications until the 80s.

On the hunt and in the collection

The civilian version of the revolver “Nagant” will be pistols stored in warehouses, which will simply be converted into carbines. According to the manufacturers, the new weapon may be of interest to both collectors and lovers of military history, as well as hunters. Apparently, therefore, it is planned to produce both the product in the original caliber of 7.62 by 38 millimeters, and the hunting version in the caliber of 22 (a small-caliber cartridge of ring ignition of 5.6 millimeters).

Interestingly, there was a similar story 10 years ago. In 2011, the company “Izhmash” introduced a new small-caliber revolver carbine, created according to the design scheme of the legendary revolver “Nagant”. The carbine was equipped with two types of cartridges: 22LR and 22WMR. Both types of cartridges are representatives of the 5.6 mm family of cartridges with ring ignition and are used in civilian weapons.

And in 2020, a Russian private company introduced a hunting carbine based on a revolver Nagant model of 1985, codenamed “Shadow-7”. The carbine outwardly was a revolver Revolver with a long barrel and a butt attached to it in the area of the handle of the typeFAB Defense Glock stock. The revolver is designed for a 5.45×18 mm cartridge. According to experts, the carbine “Shadow-7” resembled a weapon from a post-apocalyptic game like Fallout.

Millions from the plot. Statues in the garden of the British turned out to be Egyptian relics

In Britain, the family decided to sell garden statues, and they turned out to be valuable ancient Egyptian relics thousands of years old.

The sculptures were sold at auction for 265 thousand dollars (more than 19 million rubles). This is 500 times higher than the originally stated lot price. Statues of sphinxes stood in the garden of a residential building in the small town of Sudbury, Suffolk, East Anglia.

At an auction in England, it suddenly turned out that a pair of carved stone statues that the family used as garden ornaments are ancient Egyptian artifacts thousands of years old. The price of the sculptures rose cosmically in an instant, according to the CNN TV channel.

Chairman of the auction house James Mander He told reporters that they were contacted by a family who, when moving, wanted to get rid of items from their old home.

“Much weathered” statues of sphinxes were used to decorate the courtyard in the garden. According to the documents of the auction house, the statues were bought for several hundred pounds at another auction 15 years ago and were considered copies of ancient Egyptian relics of the 18th century.

“The former owners attached the head of one statue with cement, as it fell off,” James Mander shares the details. We didn’t ask the owners many questions and put the sculptures up for auction at a price of 300 to 500 pounds (from 410 to 680 dollars). From the start of the auction, the auction just went crazy!»

The sphinxes turned out to be genuine works of art!. Photo: cnn.com/Screenshot

Within 15 minutes, four telephone bidders and numerous online buyers raised the final price to 195 thousand pounds plus 24% of the buyer’s premium. The final sale was made by the international art gallery.

“The examination determined that the sculptures are authentic ancient Egyptian samples that were somehow perceived as copies of the XVIII century,” the auctioneers said in a statement.

The auction organizers said that the sellers of garden statues had no idea about the true value of the statues. But now their family budget has been replenished with a large fee from the auction.

How did the sphinxes get to England?

Mander said that in the XVIII century, English aristocrats traveled to Europe for educational purposes, and during Grand Tours they bought art goods.

“We assume that these were the objects of the Grand Tour of the XVIII century,” Mander told CNN. “The sculptures are thousands of years old, and they are real. This is really an amazing event,” he said.

The auctioneer added that the previous owners who sold the sphinxes for a couple hundred dollars were surprised “beyond understanding”.

Mander noted that work is underway to trace the origin of the statues.

“I wonder where they’ve been for the last 5,000 years? It’s really incredible,” he said.

Why didn’t Stalin exchange Sorge? The legendary scout endured 1100 days of hell

80 years ago, on October 18, 1941, Soviet intelligence officer Richard Sorge was arrested in Tokyo. He had 1,100 days ahead of him in Sugamo prison, accompanied by endless tortures and interrogations.

The sentence — the death penalty — he met in cold blood, without forgetting to thank the prison officers, those of them who preserved in communication with the prisoner human appearance.

Helped save Moscow

Sorge made history by reporting on the impending attack of Hitler on the USSR. He also conveyed information that in 1941 Japan was not going to declare war on the Soviet Union.

The scout sent this information to the Center on September 6, 1941. Sorge’s report said that Tokyo was planning to start fighting in the south, and not in the Soviet Far East, which the Soviet leadership feared. It was the very moment when the Germans had already approached Moscow. After receiving the encryption from Ramzai (codename Sorge), divisions and tank brigades ready to repel the attack of the Kwantung army were transferred from our Far Eastern borders to Moscow and played a huge role in saving the capital.

Sorge operated under the noses of the Japanese authorities for almost 10 years. He was a resident of Soviet intelligence in Tokyo from February 15, 1932 to October 1941. All this time, he was being monitored. Every day the scout walked on the blade of a knife, managing to get secret information and transmit it to Moscow. This became possible thanks to the assistants with whom he started working back in China, the journalist Hozumi Ozaki and to the radio operator To Max Clausen. In the future, a journalist joined the intelligence group Branko Vukelic and the artist Etoku Miyagi.

Japan as the final stop

The uniqueness of the situation was that, as a Soviet intelligence officer, Sorge worked as an adviser to the German ambassador in Tokyo. The future resident got carried away with leftist ideas in Berlin during his studies at the university. While pursuing a scientific career, he simultaneously led an active party activity, creating a socialist group thatIn 1919 she became a member of the Communist Party of Germany. Over time, Sorge became the head of the Communist Party school in Germany. And in 1924, a German activist was invited to Moscow to work in the structures of the Comintern, where he would stay for five years, until he was invited to the Soviet military intelligence in 1929.

He begins his resident activities in China under the guise of working as a journalist, writes articles for the German press. Sorge’s materials are a success among readers. He is making a name for himself in international journalism. And proceeds to the next step — preparing a springboard for work in Japan. This is exactly the goal set for him by the Soviet leadership.

To do this, the scout had to return to Germany, where Hitler came to power the day before. Miraculously, Sorge corrects a new passport, since the old one expired. He took a colossal risk if former acquaintances who knew him as an ardent socialist met on his way. But everything went smoothly. Sorge, where necessary, mentioned the sins of youth, assuring that in the presentfully shares the views of the Fuhrer. Having finally received a new passport, he begins to bypass the leading newspapers in Germany, offering himself as a correspondent in the land of the Rising Sun. And Sorge manages to go to Japan as a journalist. And then he will have incredible luck — the position of press secretary of the German Embassy in Tokyo.

Why didn’t Stalin exchange Sorge

The surrounding people saw Richard as a lover of carousing and a womanizer who twisted novels to the right and to the left. Wherever Sorge appeared, he became the soul of the company. Even with those who conducted surveillance on him (in Japan, a detailed dossier was kept on every foreigner), he managed to make friends. I had a drink with one of the spies in a bar, I presented presents to someone on time. In Tokyo, Sorge drove a motorcycle at a tremendous speed. It was hard to imagine that behind the facade of the guy’s shirt there was hard work, on which the course of world history depended.

The Soviet leadership appreciated Sorge, not once making sure of the fidelity of the information transmitted to them.

It is all the more surprising that Stalin did not try to get his intelligence officer out of the bowels of a Japanese prison. Tokyo offered an exchange for two admirals held in Soviet captivity. And this is by no means a myth — says journalist and intelligence historian Nikolai Dolgopolov: “After the war, the indisputable fact of the proposed exchange was confirmed by a major German intelligence officer held in Moscow. The Gestapo revealed another option: Tokyo was not averse to exchanging Sorge for several of its officers captured somewhere on the islands by the Americans who fought with Japan.

Execution on the day of the October Revolution

ButJoseph Vissarionovich on it’s not gone. Why he did so, and it remains unclear to the end. As one of the versions, the leader’s doubts are called: they say that Stalin could consider Sorge a double agent working simultaneously for the USSR and for Germany. However, this version did not even have indirect evidence, neither in the 1940s nor the 50s, nor much later, when there wereThe materials of the Japanese and German intelligence services have been declassified and made available. The answer, rather, lies in the other. Suffice it to recall that during the war and after the Victory, hundreds of thousands of Soviet servicemen who had been captured by the enemy were waiting for suspicions, new ordeals in the camps. Perhaps this rule also worked in relation to a unique scout.

The Japanese showed special sophistication by appointing the day of Sorge’s execution on November 7, the feast of the October Revolution. On this day, in 1944, Ramzai was hanged. The scout’s body was buried in a mass grave with other prisoners. In the USSR, Sorge’s feat became widely known during the times of Khrushchev. Sorge’s posthumous fame became a reward for his feat. Usually the names of residents die for history, so that the scouts themselves remain alive. In the case of Sorge, the opposite happened.
